World War I Encampment – May 21-22, 2016

2017 Date To Be Announced

Meet the Soldiers of the Great War

Nearly one-hundred years ago, war erupted in Europe and soon spread to all the world’s major economic powers. Company E of the 2nd Wisconsin National Guard, based out of Fond du Lac, was assigned to protect railway shipments in the region from the threat of sabotage by foreign agents and German sympathizers. Join the reenactors of Company E as they set up camp outside of Mid-Continent Railway Museum’s North Freedom depot to protect the railway’s vital flow of passenger trains. Visit their camp and learn about the life of a soldier of the Great War.

Trains will operate on the standard three trains per day summer schedule. Climb aboard Mid-Continent rail cars built during the World War I era, including our Delaware, Lackawanna & Western coach cars for a 55-minute, round-trip ride.

Trains depart the North Freedom depot at: 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.

There is no additional costs for this event. Standard summer train fares apply. Reservations for train rides are not required but can be made on the reservations page.
