Cover photo: This was the scene just over a year ago, May 5, 2011. The display structure north of the North Freedom depot was in the midst of being rebuilt along with the rest of the platform area as part of the recovery efforts that have followed the disastrous June 2008 flooding. In this photograph, employees of Knapp Rail Builders were installing the dual-gauge track which allows for display of both standard and narrow gauge equipment under the shelter. By the time of printing, this premium display area will again be populated with railroad equipment. Note that new handrails in the foreground and surrounding the structure were crafted from boiler tubing that had been retired from Mid-Continent Railway Museumís locomotives.
