Cover photo: But for a few clues, these two artificially aged images appear as if they could truly be scenes directly out of 1917. Prior to their deployment overseas, the real Company E, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard based out of Fond du Lac was assigned to protect railway shipments in the region from sabotage. The large German population within the state caused a fear that German sympathizers from the local population might try to disrupt train movements, prompting the protection.
