Detailed information about the different types of tickets, schedules, prices, and so on can be found on the Train Ride Information page. Return to this page when you’re ready to book your tickets. A credit card is required at the time of booking.
Reservations are generally not necessary for Coach Class seating, although it is still encouraged to reserve coach tickets if visiting during one of our special events such as Pumpkin Special or Santa Express. Reservations are encouraged but not required for Caboose and Locomotive Cab tickets due to limited seating in those areas. Reservations are required for all onboard dining trains.
Reserving Your Tickets
Mid-Continent has partnered with WhistleTix to provide a safe and secure means of reserving your tickets online. A confirmation will be emailed to you upon completion on the reservation. All reserved tickets will be available for pickup at the depot ticket window on the day of your departure. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your train’s scheduled departure time.

Reservation Convenience Fees
Tickets reserved via telephone or website are subject to a per-person Convenience Fee of $2-3. Fees vary by ticket type and age bracket. These fees are used to offset the cost of offering a secure online reservation system and phone reservation staff. Convenience fees can be waived for parties of 8 or more [only available when booking by phone].
You are welcome to visit the ticket window of our 1894 depot on days trains are operating to buy tickets for that day or to reserve tickets for a future date. No Convenience Fees are added to tickets purchased at the depot ticket window.

Seating Information for Onboard Dining Trains
Passengers are not able to choose their own seats using the WhistleTix reservation software. Seating is assigned by Mid-Continent staff to ensure that all the parties are seated at tables appropriate to the size of their party.
Mid-Continent’s dining trains use the long-time railroad tradition of community seating. This means separate parties may be seated at the same table (ex. two parties of two may be seated at a four-person table). In order to ensure proper seating for your dining experience we need the following information:
If the size of your group is 4 or less and you all wish to be seated at the same table, you should make a single reservation for all 4, or if making separate reservations you must tell us the last name of the person(s) you wish to be seated with.
If it is your intent to have a group of 5 or more sit together, please call 608-522-4261 to place your reservation so we can more accurately accommodate your needs and instruct you on how to make your group’s reservation.
If you have young children and are in need of a high chair, booster seat or both, please call 608-522-4261; that way we can have the high chair and/or booster at your table prior to boarding.
If anyone in your party has mobility or Handicap issues, please call 608-522-4261; that way we can seat you on a dining car that can accommodate a lift and seat that person closest to the door.
Our chef can usually accommodate most dietary issues if he has advance notice. If anyone in your party as dietary issues, when you make your reservation please call 608-522-4261 and let us know your dietary restriction(s). Then we will check with the chef to determine if he can accommodate your dietary needs.
If you are unable to make a call or receive a call during Mid-Continent’s normal business hours (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM), you may call after hours and leave a voice message on the phone. Please leave your name, phone number, when you are available for a return call, and a brief message. Someone from the Dining Services Department will contact you as soon as possible regarding your voice message.
Gift certificates for train rides are available for purchase by calling our office Monday-Friday at 608-522-4261 or 800-930-1385. Certificates are not a boarding pass and do not guarantee seat availability on any given train. Certificates must be redeemed for a ticket or reservation.
